Faith-Filled Fridays: Love for the World to See

What do May, June, August, September, and October have in common?

They’re the most popular months in which couples wed, according to an article titled “The Top 5 Most Popular Wedding Months – and Why Couples Love ‘Em” which was posted March 15, 2020, on www.weddingwire.com

Traditionally, June has been the preferred month for weddings, but in recent years, fall months have become more popular for a couple’s big day. In fact, October is in first place followed by September, June, May, and August, in that order.

However, regardless of when the wedding is held, the most important thing for Christian couples is what happens after the “I dos” and throughout their lives until death separates husband and wife. The minutes, days, and years which comprise a godly marriage during good times and bad. The birth of children. New jobs. Moving. Minor disagreements. Financial challenges. Death of loved ones. Medical concerns. Laughter. Tears.

This year, my husband and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary (in April – sorry, October) by going to the chiropractor. We each had appointments due to back and neck pain. Not the most romantic of celebrations, but we had a good laugh about it!

It’s in moments like these I’ve realized the invaluable blessing of a God-centered marriage. Sure, they’ll be better anniversaries (God willing) and we might even take a special trip, but we’ll always remember the anniversary we spent at the chiropractor’s office.

The Bible teaches us so much about love for the world to see. Here are a few of my favorite passages:

I Corinthians 16:14 (NKJV):

“Let all that you do be done with love.”

Ephesians 5:1-2 (NASB, 1995)

“Therefore, be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.”

Ecclesiastes 4:12 (NASB, 1995)

“And if one can overpower him who is alone, two can resist him. A cord of three strands is not quickly torn apart.”

A cord of three strands is God, a husband, and a wife. So, if you’re planning to get married soon, my prayer for you is to think upon these things. Be encouraged.
