Faith-Filled Fridays: Don’t be Like a Basset Hound

My family and I are heading to a Basset Hound specialty dog show this weekend, and it made me think of one trait of this lovable breed: Stubbornness.

On www.akc.org, the American Kennel Club describes the breed this way: “Among the most appealing of the AKC breeds, the endearing and instantly recognizable Basset Hound is a perennial favorite of dog lovers all over the world. This low-slung and low-key hound can be sometimes stubborn, but is always charming.”

While stubbornness in Basset Hounds may, indeed, be charming (and even desirable when they are scenting a trail), we need to be careful that our stubbornness doesn’t separate us from God.

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Romans 2:5 (NIV)

“But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgement will be revealed.”

When we give up our stubbornness at doing things our way and start listening to God’s word, we can draw closer to Him.

Be encouraged.
